Mission Club

The St. Cletus Mission Club is open to all 4th through 7th graders. Meetings are held monthly on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:50 a.m. The purpose of the Mission Club is to increase awareness of the needs of the poor by praying for them, collecting money to meet their daily needs, and sponsoring various projects to assist them. Mission money is collected in each homeroom throughout the year, and each year we support a particular mission country. At the end of the school year the Mission Fair is held, and the proceeds go to support our mission country. The Mission Club is affiliated with the Pontifical Mission Society, which supports mission activity throughout the world.

Twice a year the Mission Club sponsors a food drive to help the poor in our own community. Organizations such as Second Harvest, the Gretna Food Bank, and the Rebuild Center are the recipients of the food collected, and the Mission Club members pack all of the food for distribution. Other service projects are often planned to raise money to help the poor both in our community as well as around the world.

Field trips are occasionally scheduled to increase the members’ awareness of their responsibility as “missionaries” right where they are.

Instilling the value of service in the Mission Club members is a vital part of this organization, as the students learn to reach out in imitation of Jesus to help those who are less fortunate in the world.
